Papua New Guinea LNG Project

Papua New Guinea

  • Natural Gas Liquefaction Project in Papua New Guinea

The Papua New Guinea LNG Project, in which Marubeni has participated since November 2011, began shipping LNG cargo in May 2014.
Based on long-term sales and purchase agreements, 6.9 million tons per annum of LNG from the project will be delivered to Japanese electric and gas utilities as well as Chinese and Taiwanese buyers for 20 years.
Since Papua New Guinea is geographically close to Asia and is rich in natural resources, it is expected to strengthen its position as an energy supplier covering the increasing demand for LNG in Asia, especially in Japan. Marubeni will cooperate with JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation, which has been engaged in oil exploration and production in Papua New Guinea for over 20 years, to enlarge businesses in the country
