Marubeni Group CSR Activities

Basic Approach

In accordance with the spirit of the Company Creed of “Fairness (To be fair and bright), Innovation (To be active and innovative), and Harmony (To respect each other and cooperative),” the goal is to become a proud corporate group that contributes to social and economic development and to global environmental conservation through fair and transparent business activity. In order to become a company that can coexist and prosper with the environment and society, while maintaining sustainable growth, it is necessary to achieve a balance between value and evaluation for the three spheres of economic activities to generate profits, society and the environment. Achieving this balance is the goal of CSR management. The Marubeni Group aims to earn the trust of all stakeholders by implementing CSR management as a corporate group with high ethical standards.

The CSR management of the Marubeni Group cannot be achieved only through the thoughts and actions of the group employees. It is crucial to always be receptive to the opinions of stakeholders and devising measures together, as well as implementing them. Marubeni is building the foundations for a sustainable corporate group by earning the trust of our various stakeholders and working to fulfill expectations and deliver benefits.

CSR management at Marubeni is being implemented based on the policies outlined below, including the Company Creed. In the implementation of CSR management, there is also attention paid to international regulations and guidelines to clarify the important issues, and to verify the directions of our activities.

  2. The Marubeni Group solves social and environmental issues while strengthening its competitiveness, leading to sustainable growth.

CSR action Plans and Targets are created to show the relevance of the important Marubeni's sustainability to the planning and targets of each business group and the corporate staff groups; and, progress reports are issued periodically.

CSR Action Plan and Targets

We believe that the material issues in our sustainability must be constantly reviewed as the society and environment surrounding the Company continue to change. Specifically, we perform regular reviews through dialogs with stakeholders and checks of the expectations from society, as well as constantly analyzing the impact on the company.

CSR Implementation System

Marubeni has established the CSR & Environment Committee as a system to share and promote CSR activities throughout the company. At the regular meeting held at least once a year, the CSR & Environment Committee discusses the basic policies for Marubeni Group activities related to global environmental protection and CSR, including measures for climate change and biodiversity conservation, and supply chain risk management. The committee also receives activity reports from business groups and each corporate staff group department at the meeting. The CSR & Environment Committee is chaired by the Managing Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors oversees the committee by receiving regular reports on important issues discussed.

To enhance CSR activities at the Group level, Chief Administrators for CSR & Environment and CSR & Environment Representatives are assigned in all Business Groups, Corporate Staff Groups, offices, and branches. They operate the Environment Management System, and are also responsible for CSR-enhancing activities. Their role is to convey the importance of sustainability at Marubeni within each organization, from both environmental and CSR perspectives.
