Marubeni Brasil S.A., founded in August 1955, is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. On this occasion, Marubeni Brasil will seek the cooperation of its affiliate Cia. Iguacu de Café Soluvel and establish “Marubeni-Café Iguacu Scholarship Fund” as part of social contribution activities in the Federative Republic of Brazil where Marubeni has been conducting business activities for many years. Marubeni Brasil plans to contribute US$300,000 and Cia. Iguacu de Café Soluvel US$200,000 to the Fund for a total fund amount of US$500,000.
Funding will be managed in the local Brazilian Real currency based on the base US$500,000 and used to manage the Fund and support educational fees. Specifically, the Fund will be used to subsidize cost of school supplies, tuition fees, academic research fees and other costs each year.
Marubeni has in the past established and manages similar scholarship funds in the Republic of the Philippines (1989; US$350,000), Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1994; US$130,000) and Republic of Indonesia (1999; US$350,000). In addition to having granted scholarships to some 3,000 students to date, a portion has been used for other aid such as school restorations. This will be the fourth scholarship fund Marubeni will have established abroad.
