Marubeni Corporation

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter called as “Marubeni”) and The Nippon Signal Co., Ltd (hereinafter called as “Nippon Signal”) have signed the contract for upgrading Signaling System in Izmir, Turkey.

This project is conducted by General Directorate of TCDD (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryollari) under the project of Izmir Commuter Train System by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, consisting of South Line (21.3km) from Alsancak to Cumaovasi and North Line (57.3 km) from Basmane to Menemen. South Line as “Phase 1” of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010, and North Line as “Phase 2” by May, 2011.

In recent years, many lines in Izmir are improved to be multi-dimensional by using level crossings in order to reduce a traffic jam. It is also expected to increase users and services between the city and the nearest station from the airport.

This contract has been realized in line with Marubeni’s experience of supplying signal systems in the same area in 2004 together with Nippon Signal. Turning our previous achievement to advantage, Marubeni aims to get involved in future projects such as high speed line projects in Ankara, Turkey.
