Domestic sales, import, and third-country trade of plastic raw materials and plastic products, packaging materials, high performance plastic raw materials and plastic products.
Plastic resin, known collectively as plastic, is an indispensable part of our daily lives. This raw material is used to make plastic bottles, food packaging, automobile parts, smartphone touch panel films, and other items. Marubeni Plax Corporation (“Marubeni Plax”) conducts domestic sales and importation, and overseas transaction of plastic raw materials and plastic products, packaging materials, high performance plastic raw materials and plastic products. We are a specialized trading company and center of the Marubeni Group’s plastic resins business.
The founding year of our company’s previous incarnation, Marubeni Plastic Products Co. Ltd., was 1975. The core products handled by the company, which was spun off from Marubeni, were plastic products and construction materials. In 1991, the company changed its name to the current Marubeni Plax Corporation. In 1997, the company made a fresh start as the new Marubeni Plax following a three-way merger with Marubeni Planet, which handled plastic for soft packaging, and Marubeni Toplas, which shouldered the engineering plastic field. In 2004, Marubeni Plax received control of all of Marubeni’s business activities in plastic resins. As a top-class domestic trading company specializing in plastic resins, Marubeni Plax continues making leaps forward as 2015 ushers in the company’s 40th anniversary of establishment.
Marubeni Plax is involved in a diverse range of business fields such as automotive, electrical-electronics, and those related to packaging materials and retail. We adopt a three-division approach to the products we handle, and because each of our professional and knowledgeable staff can provide precise answers, we have responded to a broad range of needs from various customers.
The Film & Plastics Products Div. provides a range of products in the packaging materials field, such as films and sheets, food containers, plastic bags, and non-woven sheets. The division is strengthening business in optical films used in flat display and touch panels. The Plastics Div. is supplying factories and hubs domestically and overseas to respond to customer needs for plastic resins and consumer goods, and rosins in the various fields of plastics. The Industrial Plastics Div. handles high performance resin (engineering plastic, etc.) used in the automotive, electric and electronic fields. Engineering plastic, which reduces weight in addition to providing energy efficiency, is suitable as a material that protects the environment and is sought after by domestic and overseas customers from a wide range of fields.
The development of new applications for raw materials and new products is our important mission. We are creating new products with suppliers who ask us to consider ways of using new materials and manufacturers who ask us what materials best suit their needs, and expanding our product range. We handle next-generation materials such as carbon fiber and are always keeping an eye on new industry trends. By creating new products with high added-value that utilize the properties of their materials to the fullest, we are supporting manufacturing and aim to widely contribute to society.
Marubeni Plax is conducting business activities in a global and borderless marketplace. For example, suppliers of raw materials for plastic resins are located in China and the Middle East while the products from the processing and manufacturing factories located in the ASEAN region are sold in Japan and Western countries. In recent years, we are especially focusing on importing and exporting, as well as third-country trade in the strategic regions of China and South East Asia. We have stated the following three sales strategies in line with global industry trends and will make company-wide efforts in achieving them: 1) Expand sales in automotive materials and engineering plastic; 2) Expand imports of polyolefins (polyethylene, polypropylene), rosin, PET, films, etc. to capitalize on company functions; and 3) Expand trade of functional films (food products, optical, industrial-use, etc.) and high added-value products.
There is an increasing trend for customers to head overseas even in the plastic resins raw materials and products industry. By judging this as a widening business opportunity of the ever increasing global and borderless marketplace, Marubeni Plax will further its activities as a leading seller of plastic resins.
